Screenwrite Announces Winners of Seventh Annual Contest March
20, 2011 (Newark, N.J.)--Christian
Screenwrite
today announced the winners of its 2010 Christian
screenwriting competition. Winners receive cash awards. In addition,
each
winning script will be read by Reel
Frog Films,
producers of top top-selling Christian DVD, THE BOOK OF RUTH: JOURNEY
OF FAITH,
distributed by Trinity Broadcasting Network. David
Schroeder
of Miami won first place for his drama, HALFWAY HOME, about a
paralyzed young man's broken spirit and intellectual pride which
is challenged as a live-in supervisor in a halfway house for the
mentally
disabled. "HALFWAY
HOME was a special story to me
that needed to be told in a way true to the heart, and finding an
audience with
Christian Screenwrite is a special reward," said the teacher.
"Thank you
again for this recognition, and especially thanks to LaVonne McIver,
producer
of the contest, for her
dedication to storytellers of
faith." Mike
Long of Burke, Va., won second
place for his comic drama, THE JOBY PROJECT. The
script is the Biblical story of Job
set in modern times. "The
public is starved for
entertainment that reflects their values and the way they truly live," said
the freelance speechwriter.
"This
contest encourages the creation of just that kind of work. I'm glad to
be a
part of the effort, and glad that LaVonne is tending this particular
field so
joyfully and so well." Reverend
Sarah Brockman of Norwood,
MA., won third place honors for her
script, READING PA, about a
twelve-year old girl who struggles with her sense
of sin and redemption, and in the process changes the lives of the
people
around her and re-awakens the faith of a burned-out female priest.
"It
is encouraging to have an opportunity to promote stories that have a
positive
spiritual element to them, and this competition was particularly
appealing for
that reason and the opportunity to have the winning scripts considered
by
production companies," said Brockman. To
